4 ' -BOOKMAKERS IN A QUANDARY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. November 22, 9.30 p.m.) London, November 22. Mr. Justice Rentoul's decision as to the recovery of gaming debts has placed the bookmakers in a quandary as they are liable to be sued by the losers of bets. An appeal is preparing. A cable .message published yesterday, stated that under tho Act of William IV,' Mr. Justice Rentoul, Judge of the City of London .Court, decided that a bookmaker can recover from a defaulting client winnings which he may have previously paid to tho defaulter, provided payment has been made, by cheque.
