THE GOVERNOR'S DEPARTURE.
$ : AN APPRECIATIVE LETTER. Lord and Lady Islington left by th« mid-day express for Auckland yesterday. A guard of honour at Tborndon station was furnished by the Royal New Zealand Artillery. The Cabinet was represented by the Hon. H. D. Bell (Minister fop Internal Affairs). Others presentwore the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Larenk a numbor of city councillors, and tho Town. Clerk (Mr. J. R. Palmer). A large number of people assembled at the station to . bid • their. Excellencies good-bye. The pupils of the Croyden House School, in which Lady Islington has taken a great interest, attended in a body, and presented her Excellency with niajiy bunches of roses. As tho train left the station, cheers were heartily given for the departing Governor and for Lady Islington, at the call of the Mayor. Their Excellencies will remain at Auckland until December 2, when they will tako their departure for England. As their Excellencies passed Wellington. College grounds yesterday, they were loudly cheered by the boys Bnd the staff—an assemblago nearly 500 strong. Yesterday the following letter from Lord Islington was received by the Mayor:— , "Dear Mr. Mayor,— "Before leaving this morning, I should like to convey to you and through you and your council to the citizens of Wellington, the deep appreciation of Lady Islington and myself for the magnificent meeting of farewell extended to us last night in your Town Hal!. "I omitted to mention in speech, owing to feelings of emotion which were controlling me at the time, how much. Lady Islington and I value the beautiful album presented by yon to us list night on behalf of the citizens. The delightful scenes of New Zealand within the album will help to keep fresh in our ■ memories and affections _onr pleasant sojonrn in this Dominion. We snail be glad if yea will convey fa all our gTatitudo for the charming gift. "I am, etc., (Sgd) "ISLINGTON, "Governor. A FAREWELL AT PALMERSTON. (By Tekjraph.—Pre93 Association.) Palmerstcn N., November 22. Their Excellencies, as they passed through on the Main Trunk express for Auckland to-day, were farewellea by the citizens of Palmerston North. The Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) and representatve citizens were present and brief speeches wera made testifying to the affection and esteem entertained towards their Excellencies. ' His Excellency the Governor, during his stay in Auckland, will open the new King George's Hall at Mount Albert at 8 p.m. to-day, and on Tuesday night'' tho Y.W.C.A. will tender 1 a concert to Lady Islington at the Town Hall. On Wednesday afternoon there will be'a garden. party at Government House, and on •the following Friday night their Excellencies will be farewelled by the citizens at the Town Hall. During their 6tay in Auckland Lord and Lady Islington will also attend, a number of other functions.
