SURF BATHING.

AND THE PROTECTION OF THE MALE. Sir,—We are indebted to you for publishing the new by-law. : In most countries it would Ibe enough to post the notice, "For men only," to deter females from- trespassing on the men's dressingrooms, but, of course, in this advanced oommunity, where women have their rights, more stringent measures are needed. Even the City Council cannot prevent men and women from swimming in the sea in company, and the contemplated danger is evidently' one arising on land. Is it, however, judicious to thus authorise the entry of females into the men's dressing-sheds under the.pretext, of rendering assistance ? An interpretation clause is needed defining the circumstances. In order to guard against'' suffragettes, it might be. wise to provide a barbed-wire fence. May I suggest that our resourceful Mayor should summon a public meeting of surf-bathers of both sexes, so that measures for protecting the unprotected male may be adequately discussed?—l am, etc., ■ STOFEREK. November 22.
