RIFLE SHOOTING.
FREE ISSUE OF FIGURE TARGETS. A proposal made by the chairman of tho New Zealand Rifle Clubs' Executive (President H. Marshall, of tho Karori Ritio Club), in regard to the much-de-bated figure-targets, has been adopted by the Defence Department: A standard sot of colours for the target has been approved for the whole of tho Dominion. Tho figures themselves are also to be cut t6 a standard size, shape and colour. Perforated sheets of patches of tho correct colours will also be supplied. The material will be stocked by tho Defence stores, and those requiring supplies will apply in the usual manner. Tlio Commandant of tho New Zealand Forces has agreed to issue I'reo of charge, so that riflo clubs will shortly, at a minimum of expense and inconvenience, be ablo to keep their targets up to date, and in conformance with tho approved conditions for tho Trenthnm championship meeting. Ono of tho greatest objections to tho figure target in tho past has been the variety of colours and shapes in which it appoarod on the different ranges in the Dominion. Under tho now idea, howover, oxactly tho samo class of figure-tar-get will bo in nso on every rango in the Dominion. Tho colours for tho figuretargot were suggested by Mr. Marshall, and tho paper tor tho figures by Captain Waltingl'ord, being afterwards approved by General Godloy. There is not enough of tho required paper in New Zealand to supply all at tho present timo. However, a.lnrgo order has been sent to England, and in tho meantime tho.Defence stores will issuo what they have.
