POTATOES.
SHORTAGE OF SUPPLIES. . Cable messages from Sydney, this week stated that potatoes were selling from JSIB to ,£22 per ton there. On inriuiry at the markets yesterday it was ascertained, that the old potatoes were practically done, and that there was a slight shortage in supplies, but it was anticipated that good supplies of new potatoes would bo coming to -hand during the next few days and that present prices were likely to drop. The best of now potatoes w : ere now being sold from J2lO to Xll per ton, and ordinary samples about £Ti per toii. It was reported that blight was fairly prevalent in tho Otaki district this year, out heavy consignments would be coming forward from Auckland very shortly. Prices had been pretty'high for six or eight weeks past, owing to heavy shipments from the south to Australia, but there was.no possibility of their' boing maintained with tho now season's crop coming forward.
