Wellington.—The position of tho Hector Observatory is as follows :— Latitude, 41dog. 17min. -3.765ec. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.275e0. East of Greenwich. Height, aboVe 1909 mean soa level, 418 feet. | ; Chronometer Eating Notice.—At 1 p.m. to-day. a galvanometer signal for ratingchronometers will -be sent fi;om the Observatory to the Public Telegraph Office and to the Dominion Museum. The needle ■wijl move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard' mean time, when a chronometer sot' to Greenwich mean time should show 13 hours 30min. Any difference will bo the error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correct tiino will also be signalled- from the Observatory by means of elcctric lights. A green light will be switched on at about 8.45 p.m., a rod one at about 8.55 p.m., and a white ono at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. Tho preparatory switching on of tho lights must be considered as only approximately correct, and must not bo used for rating chronometers. The correct time for rating will be given by switching off the lights simultaneously at 9 p.m. O. E. ADAMS, Wellington, November 1912.
