' [ Mr. O'Connor 1 has been a memfe cl tho High Court Bench since, its .creation in 1903. ,Thb other two, original members of the Bench were Sir Samuel 'Griffiths, who was elevated from the Chief-Justice-ship of Queensland, and Sir Edmund Barton, who resigned Ihs Premiership of Aus■tralid to retire to the calm' of tlio lawcourts. , Mr. O'Connor- 'ivus a . collp<i<iuq of Sir Edmund- Barton's in. the first Federal Cabinet, and was Loader of. t-.IiQ. Senate prior • to 1 accepting judicial office. Born at Sydney in. 1851, lie was a distinguished graduate of Sydney University (it.A. 1873). Ho was called to the -New South Wales Bar in 1870, and in ISM was; appointed a Q.C. For . thirteen years ho was a member of the: Legislative .Conn.-., oil, and somo time. Minister for Justice. Tie represented-his State with distinction in the National Convention which -framed the Commonwealth Constitution, nndw.n ono of the three niembers-'-of .
