Valiutine, Inspector-General of the Department of Public Health, Hospitals, . and Charitable Aid, on the subject: of establishing a more intimate relationship between the hospital boards and ''.he So. . ciety for the Promotion of the> Health of • 'Women and Children. \ - >'■ "Having regard to the influence that the society is exercising in the direction ■ of reducing the infantile mortality rate , of tho Dominion," rfrote Dr. Vahntine, - "the Minister of.the Department has de- . cided that contributions collected by the :• society with a.view to! the establishment,. : of Plunket'nurses,- should receive 245. 1' subsidy (allowable on donations, . etc.). paid and collected through the hospital • boards concerned; such subsidy not. to exceed .£IOO for every nurse appointed. A's the work of the society has a most, important bearing on the public health: of the Dominion, I would be glad if ycur • board would give effect to .the wishes, of • the Minister in this respect, and.geueral-' ly to extend .all assistance to the establishment of a local branch of the ■ ■ in'your district, if such a branch, has not already been formed. The society . lias ■, . readily concurred with the suggestion of > the Department, to the effect that the. services of the Plunket nurses should, also be utilised in connection,with the forthcoming campaign against tubercu- . losis. ■ The letter was referred to the Healttt Committee.
