HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday nlternoon, those present being: Metsrs. J. Trevor (cliuirman), 11. Baldwin, J. E. Fitzgerald, R. Fletciiei', IV. Galloway, B. R. Uardener, J. Uodber, A. H. llinumarsh, L. .M'lvenzie, J. \V. Jl'lvwan, i). Jl'l,nreli, I''. X. Moore, ij. I >.ash, V. Robertson, J. Smith, I(e.v. 11. Van Slavenui, and Jliss Richmond. A letter was received from the Town Clerk regarding the .civic farewell to his Excellency Lord Islington, which takes place on Thursday, November 21, at tho Town Hull, inviting members of the board to be present. Tlie Inspector-General (Dr. A'alintine) wrote to tlie board asking its assistance and co-operation m regard to certain matters in connection with Section til of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act.—Received. Tho board endorsed the resolution of the Southland Board, regarding tho education of defective children. The resolution was in effect to have certaiu clauses in. tho Education. Amendment Act, 11)10, amended so that the whole cost of educating defective children should bo bornn by tno Government. By an amendment of the Education Act, 11)10, the education of the blind, deaf, epileptic, and feebleminded children was made compulsory on tho part of tho parents of the children. Regarding the Saturday and Sunday hospital collections, the chairman said that tho Hospital Committee hud had an interview with tho St. John Ambulance Association, and the/ could not come to any agreement. St. Johii Ambulance Association are holding their collection dayoil November 3ft. ''Tho question is whether wo will defer' this .to February." Tho Rev. Van Stavcren asked that tho matter bo referred to tho'Hospital Committee. The chairman said the matter concerned the whole board. Jlr. Jl'Luren said that it would.be much better, if the collection was left over until the begin-' niug of next year. Ho thought that if it ivas held this, year it would conflict with the other collection. It was decided to hold Hospital . Saturday on February 15 of next year. The Wellington Hospital return for tho fortnight from October 28 to November ■1, is as follows, the figures for tho same period last year are given in parentheses) :—Admitted, IGG (122); discharged, 178 (12S); still in hospital, 253 (239). Tho number of patients under treatment in the various hospitals during' tho samo period are as follows:—Victoria, 20 males,; 20. females; Seddoii, 14 males, G females; Infectious Diseases, 6 males, ,4females; Children's, 3G males, 21 females; general, 82 males, 7-4 females. Totals, 158 males, 125 females. Tho Public Health Committee's' report stated: "Tho AA r ollington Education Board has agreed to accept tho offer of .the board to undertake-such fumigation as in tho opinion of the Health Department or tho Hospital Board may bo necessary on account of infectious .disease. The services .of the health inspectors to N bo provided free, tho' cost of disinfectant, and of any extra labour that iiiay bo required in the .larger schools, to' bo borne by tlie Education Board. During tho 'mouth ended November 10; tho health inspectors report having made 44 investigations, of, infectious disease.' The fol- , lowing notifications ,were received Scarlet -fever,. 23 eases; diphtheria, .9; tuberculosis, 18; enteric fever, 2; blood .poisoning, 2. Tho inspectors visited Shannon, Belmont, Lower Hutt, Northland, Khandallah, AVndestown. and.Soatoun, to attend.to oases of reported infectious disease. Tho . report was adopted. . .The Hospital Committee reported that tho Otaki Hospital; statistics for the month of October were as follow:—Hospital, admitted, 10; discharged, 4; under treatment, 8 males and 4 females. Sanatorium, admitted, 2; discharged, 8; under treatment, .9 males and 11 females. The report was received.,,. The dato of the next meeting of the board was fixed for December 19.
