THE QUESTION OP DEPLETION. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ••• Auckland, November 18. . Hcpresentatives from the Auckland Cliaraber of Commerce placed before tho, Prime Minister yesterday tho following, resolution:—"That in tho. opinion of this conference tho question of afforestation ia of. vital importance to tho Dominion, and it urges uipori tho Government the necessity of making full and exhaustive inquiry into tho question of the depletion of our forests and to consider the desirability of establishing a national school of forestry. Mr. Massoy said he -fully realised the importance of the question. One heed only remomber that tho supply of kauri was practically exhausted to 6ee the posU tion, and a trip down tho. Main Trunk line would show how the forests were being depleted. Mr. Massey went on to say that ho was at present trying to arrange for a commission of two experts to renort, with a view to preserving tho forests, and tho Government realised that more would have to bo done, first by the Government, secondly by local bodies, and lastly by private individuals themselves. '
