SPORT WITH TIJE RIFLE, AT TIiENTHAM AND ELSEWHEIIK Last Saturday tho various rifle olubs continued tht'ir matches at Trcnthani and other rangos. The weather was anything but pleasant, and riflemen had a very trying time under circumstances which even for short-range shooting would have been regarded as of tho worst. At SOO yards on the Trentham range the shooting was carried on for a time through a driving rain with a windago of 25 degrees. KARORI RIFLE CLUB. The Karori Club fired the third match of its hrst series for trophies donated byMessrs. J. F. Mills, J. Reed, Judge Rawson, anu Jlessrs. IV. C. Gasquoine, A. Collms, and N. F. Willoughby. Conditions —10 shots at 800 and 900 yards. Rifleman J. G. Faulknor again put up.the top score for the club, and his total of 89 for the two ranges is a-fine performance considering the difficulties which liad to be met. Rifleman R. Defence Rifle Club continued shooting at Broadway range, Miramar, •on Wednesday and Saturday. This match was the commencement of the second series, .for trophies presented by the club, T. Cbltman, and W. F. Hornig. The weather on both days was qs usunl— anything but shooting weather ,the wind varying from eleven degrees • left to six degrees right. In elevation the variation was 5, eight degrees on normal. Members on the range on Saturday expressed their sympathy' toward Rifleman-A. R. Brown on his recent bereavement. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Brown, conveying the club's sympathy. Shooting will be continued on Wednesday and Saturday next.
