, OPENING OF SEASON. Tho Mayor of Wellington (Mr. D. M'Laren) officially 1 declared Port Nicholson's yachting season opened on Saturday 'afternoon.' Although the weather was far from ideal/ a good number of yachts arid launches took part in the opening, which was a successful affair. At 3.25 p.m. Mr. M'Laren fired a gun from Shed 48 at the Boat Harbour, and announced the season opon, in a short speech.. The Hon; J. I). Jeiikinson, M.L.C., who was present, also spoke, and wishjed.iyaohtsmen" a''successful season. Tho yachts and launches then formed into a procession, and sailed Tound the man-o'-war buoy, tho red buoy, and thence back to the Boat Harbour. On their return afternoon tea was served in Shed 48 at the Boat Harbour. The cruise was made' in a fierce., northerly, and very 6oon after their return to the Boat Harbour tho wind dropped during a brief interval! in which the northerly contested its sky-rights with a blucrblack southerly that had banked up. / The southerly won, and soon, had sole , possession of. the harbour.
