GAELIC SERVICE.

AT ST. JOHN'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. About sixty Highlanders gathered to tha Presbyterian General Assembly's Gaelio service, which was conducted yesterday by the Rev. D. M'Lennan, of Edendale,,at St. John's Church. Tho praise, in which the Gaelio psalms only were used, as m tho Highlands of Scotland, was conducted by the Rev. W. Macdonald, of Wcipukurau, who fchanted the portion to be sung, line by line, as is still customary in.the Highlands. The sermon- was founded upon Song of Songs, iv., 6, "Until the day break and the shadows flee away. The following is an abstract in Gaelio with a liberal English translation':— "Anns and Dan- dhiomhar so tha. on Tighearna ag iiuiseadh d'a shluagh fhein gur eigin dhoith. fautuinn ann nieasg sgailean agus trioblaidean na beatha _ so gns am pill e fein mar an ur mhadiiinn agus an la , - .; . "Tha am peacaidh Egaoileadh thamS oirun sgailean dorchadais -bhais. "Tha an lagh mar an oendra' toir sgul. lean leis agus mar sin tha cgailean n& beatha lionmhor. . - ; "Tha an saoghal fos cur sgaile air...a' bheatha so tha lathair agus gan ur dalladh gu boclid. , "Ach is e am has an sgaile is tmga ild "Gheall esanj giim pilleadh 0 sgaile a bhais gu solus na madiiinn." ■ Translation. "la this mystic song the Lord tells His own how they must abide for a time among the shadows and troubles of this present life until the return (from the Mountain of Myrrh) as the morning and the perfect day. "Sin lias cast over us the shadows of darkness and death. "The lav; at one time also brought its shadows and types to multiply . our troubles. • "Tho world, moreover, casts its shadow over all life's affairs, and limits oiir vision. , , "But death is tho last and deepest shadow through which we all hiUst pass. > "Our Lord hath promised that when He comes He will turn the shadow of death into the morning light."
