SWIMMING.

"MANLY SWIMMERS FOR NEW ZEALAND. Keen intsrest is being displayed by local swimmers regarding the, forthcoming visit of two Manly siyimmers—"Tod" Solomons and S. Kidding-ton—to Wellington. The above two swimmers have been invited to New Zealand by'the N.Z.A.S.A., and will, probably'leave' Sydney at tho end of.this month for Wellington direct.. -' Referring to the pending departure of the swimmers, a Sydney paper, states:— "Solomons, the .crack sprinter of the Manly Club; is at present in great form,, and, needless'to say, lie will acquit himself well in Maoriland. In aSO yards handicap held some, weeks ago he put up the fast time of 25 seconds, dead. Quite reoontly he' also gave a brilliant exhibition, covering' 100 yards in 59 3-ssecs. When it is stated that this time is only a few seconds outside (he world's record for the distance, the performance must be regarded as a first-class one indeed. Perhaps there is no more pobular member in the club than Sid, Riddington, "who justly holds the title of local diving champion." "It is possible that Harry Hay, also of the Manly Club, will make the trip. The local swimming centre also endeavoured to get P. Russell, ofitlie Sydney Club, • to make the trip, but ;his. business prevents him from coming, j According to other Sydmejr parpera, the Auckland Centre was endeavouring to get the Misses Durack'tand Wylie to visit. Auckland, but while; Miss; Wylie .may decjdo in the affirmative, the champion lady 6wimmer has notified her inability to-ac-cept the invitation. ; Mr. "Tod" Solomons, in a recent letter to Mr. Atkins, chairman of the Wellington Centre, considers'that it would bo an education to local'swimmers to see two ] men crawling, who can beat GOsec. over the 100 yards. ■ •
