Cd; for the purposes named in connection with, the recent loan carried by'< way of . purchasing' the Akata- . rawa waterworks' site. -, .It- was reported- that the Finance Com-i so /far >been unable, to raise, the;-Sll,ooo 'lean-'for'' carrying' 'out the' water scheme, as the moiiey market gen-, .erally was , not buoyant by any means. - i' It was decided that the chairman should represent the board/iait the conference of local bodies cohvened'for Monday next in Wellington ,to determine under whose control. :the' Hutt/Eoa'd should be held. . -Messrs. Vnietalled."'- V' • • i' ' ■ i-' \.. . Twelve-residents-of;Pine Avenue petitioned the board to have the street properly graded and a footpath formed along River Street. The matter was referred to the Works Committee for a report. It was decided to give final warning to motor-cyclists and.Cyclist9 generally that actiSn wjUV.be!!'taken, against their trespassing upon township'streets as has become the practice,'whilst in several instances notice boards have been destroyed, in this connection. ; It was decided to request the Town Hall Company to' safeguard' the public, by providing an extra emergency exit to their building; - Two sections along the Hutt River, adjoining, the vWaidegrave Park Estate, were reported-to :'Eave been'washed, away, and . the' roa<l threatened at -the/River Street 'intersection-of Pine Avenue,' relief being sought of' the board in. the direction preventing, further erosion. The Municipal' Association:' solicitor (Mr. Martin) advised the board of vita, immunity from damages, . and a -motion .was moved accord-ingly-directing those effected to give attention themselves to the matter personally. Commissioner Bennington, however, contended that.theipossible danger to the township of continued erosion in this locality was sufficient- to make the board take a less" apathetic, view of its own responsibility in at-least protecting public 'streets, >-and . regretted ;-th(it; five -months; had elapsed mnce;.thei : .company's - offer, to share.'.the cost' of protective works had' been, replied- to, or .'action taken. Commissioner Ittnip complained of the unsatisfactory to_rem6vo\ storm water from' 'E.' Webb's. residence at Trentham.
