IL Ivcltio and Co. had donated a gold medal to tho club this season, and it-was decided to recommend the committee. to award same as a points prize. As a token of esteem upon the occasion of his departure, for (Jisborne, Mr. L. J. Garmino was the recipient of a handsomo training bag from the members of the Carterton Swimming Club. FEATHERSTON. Mr. "William Fuge, of Kaiwaiwqi, returned on Wednesday from a sis months' trip" to England, The Coronation Swimming Bath here is now ready for use, and it was decided Jt the l„st meeting of the Town Board that the residents should be asked to form a Swimming Club to take over the management of tho Bath. The animal spring show of the Featlierston District Horticultural Society was opened on Thursday, the day being fine, with a strong N.W. wind. Mainly duo to the lateness of the season, and .to the recent etormy weather, the exhibits wore considerably less in volume than in previous years. This was especially noticeable in the rose and sweet pea classes, Vrhich were rather meagre. There was a goal display of vegetables, ond the sewing ana cooking classes were of -average proportions. The prize for the best rose in th« room vfas won by Mrs, W. J. Martin, and the sama exhibitor is the winner for the year of the rose-bowl donated by Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., for the highest, aggregate of points secured in roses. The special prize for the most points in the vegetable section was iron by Mrs. J. 0. Biawill, and Mr. C. Elgar's trophy for most points in flowers, not including roses, •was awarded to Mrs. W. J. Martin, vfith 29 points, Mrs. (3, Stewart being next with 27 points. Miss B. Donald won tho prizes donated by Mr, W. E. Bidwi.ll for the best decorated dinneri table. The attendance of the public wits.about equal, to that of former years. ■■ The new Town Hall being erected in Martinborbugh is expscted to be completed'early next year, although some delay is anticipated owing to the difficulty experienced in obtaining carpenters, It is understood that some wen had to be got from the South Island, as there is a keen demand for this class .of labour throughout this district. OTAKI. At the Police Court to-day several Native parents were fined for tailing to send ■ their children to school the required number of times. Mr. Dineeu, truant inspector* appeared on behalf of the Education Board, while Messrs. Bennett and Jones werethe presiding justices. "Alone in the World," a throe-act comedy-drama,' was staged' here by tha levin Dramatic Society last night, but; there was only a small audience. . Thestaging was not over'strong, aiid the work of some of the performers was decidedly weak. ■ . .-.
