CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE.

The first wool sale of this seasou'-s series was held to-day, when 2687 bales were offered, as compared with MO2 bales at tuo opening sale last year. Broken weather during tbo past threo weeks interrupted ehearitts, otherwise tJicro would have been a. much laxßcr offering. Thoro was a' rocord, attendance of buyers foT tho first ealc, botween fifty ' nnd sitty ■ being present. The bulk ot the wool consisted o{ ■small farmers' clip or from fat sheep, shorn, for local consumption or • frceztac. The wool wafe in much better condition than last year, beins well and eoundly grown and clean, thoro being but low earthy lots. Competition was very Iteon throughout for every class, and prices wcro fully ljd. to 2d. por.lb. abovo those ruling at November sale last year. The local woollen mill representatives bid frooly for all flno wools, including- a few emoll lots of merino offered. A coneidorablo amounit of medium clean crossbred was bought on American account, end of other. oversea buyers, tttoso roproseutinK Home firms did most-of tie business, Continental representatives not. operating to- any , extent. Local woo]>6cc-urer6 did a fair amount of bvijincivs in suitable lots. The siilc .wont off briskly, but few Jots being passed in, a.nd was completed 'in tlirco hours.
