RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The Wellington Rifle Association, in its endeavours to encourage . riflo snooting amongst senior cadets, territorials, and riile clubmen, as proved by its programme for the.. New Year meeting, is obtaining very gratifying support. In addition, to tho many previously published, the following have also given donations and trophies:—The Hon. the Minister for Defence, Colonel R. J. Collins, Lieut-Colonel W. G.- Duthie, Major W. Sinim, Captain Wilkinson, Lieutenants Giuquoine and Nicholson, "A Colonel," J. Staples and Co., Ltd., and Wollernura. and Co.
In accordance with custom, the "'bluecoat" boys of Christ's Hospital, Horaha.ni, were brought to London on Sunday, September 22, to attend servics at Christ Church, Newgate Street, adjoining which the school existed for many year*. Tμ boys were afterwards given tea end a shilling "«ach at the Mansion House. A fox-terrier which gave the alarm was the- means of savin? three lives in a fire at the Britannia Inn, Gitildi'ord. 'Hie dog. which slept in a baby's cradle, suddenly began to bark, Mr. Bnffield, the landlord, his wife and child, woke tip, and, on seeking to account for the dog's barking, Mr. Duflield found the house full of smoke. Tho three occupants, with the dog, made their escape through a window. - A man, nged 85, who had worked on the same farm at Gransdcn, Huntingdonshire, for 72 years, was awarded tho first prize in. a long-service competition at Graaisden Agricultural Society's show.
