LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
> - ——-—*— '■ ——- A meeting of the Lower. Hutt Borough Council was held last night. It was attended by the' Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny), and Councillors Hodgins, Knight, Kcmpthorne, Clendon, Dawson, Boots, Ball, qnd Hobbs. . ' ', Mr. Gold, in a letter regarding an' interview he had had with the borough engineer, relative to the projected road from the Waiwetu Bridge to Lowry Bay Road, refers to tho agreement entered into by the council with the Wellington City Council, and suggests that as the land wa9 dedicated by the Gracefiuld Syndicate, the construction of the road would be done by the council. Reporting on the matter, tho works committee recommended, that Mr. Gold be informed that under Clause- 8 of the agreement he refers to Mr. Nathan covenanted to "dedicate' olid form", tho road, and that he be also informed that one of- the. conditions of the council ©onsenting to the roijd is that there shall bo two lines of sewers constructed'by him or the money deposited with the council in order that it (the council)'may construct same, and, further, that tho formation works ahull conform to tile council's usual conditions for street formations. It was agreed to forward the leport of the committee.' In answer to a- query regarding retaining walls, the Karon Borough Council pointed out that they recognised no obligation to erect supports for footpaths unless for their own cenefit. 'I'ho letter was received. Mr. J. L. London drew attention to tho quantity: of surface water which he alloged came off the Main Road into his bro-therV-property. The works committee,reported the cost of laying a pipe drain'on this place would bs so great that at present the council could not carry out such work; Tho report v/as adopted. ' A ratepayer was granted assistance to connect his premises with the sewerage system. It was resolved to bring tho newly-made by-law into force on Decenibar 2, 1912. Mr. Williams asked permission to removb his shed and outhouses to another position on his properly. Tho engineer reported that tho section under review was within the brick area, and tho sheds were very old. Alter some discussion It was resolved to allow applicant to remove ono outhouse only. Messrs. Jones and M'Keen asked tho council to approach the City Couincil in the matter of tho approaches on the eastern side of the new pipe bridge. Tho Mayor painted out that the mutter had been overlooked, and he moved that the City Ot»ucil bo asked to alter tho approaches. This was carried. The engineer reported that sis owners in King's Eoad had intimated that they would beeoni? gas consumers if the main is kid. A number of complaints were recsived about tha pressure of gas in the borough, which is supplied by the Patone Borough Counoil. Tha latter counoil stated thattheir engineer had beon instructed to take tests from time to tiuu. The Mayor. «aid that things had been most unsatisfactory of lata, and h« would move "that this council considers tho reply unsatisfactory, and informs the Petone Council that, unless it furnishes definito proposals of a satisfactory character before November 25 this council will proceed to act under clause 7 of tho agreement, and refer tho dispute to the decision of the Wellington Gas Company's engineer."—This was carried. ,
