PONGAROA.

A' church parade of Friendly Societies, sports, and football club's,- and Scouts, headed by the Popgaroa Brass Band of fifteen instrumentalists, took place in ideal.summer weather last. Sunday afternoon, at tho conclusion of the procession from the Foresters' Hall to the Presbyterian Church, a special service was held in the church. There were, about a hundred present. Tho Rev. James Rattray preached an appropriate sermon based on part of the fourteenth verse of the second chapter of the first epistle of St. John: "I have written unto you, young men, because.ye are strong," The parade was a very successful one, and being the first of the kind held in the district, created a great deal of interest. It also was the means of bringing together a number of settlers and their wives Wd children. ■ >,
