'Mr. Bunny said that owing to the law having been changed in regard to holding a statutory meeting, it was deemed necessary to call the ratepayers together ill-this way. After reviewing the report on the question 'from the engineer, tho speaker said that in a drainage scheme' water. was an absolute essential, and if the drainage system was to be; extended the storage- capacity of the reservoir must bo increased as proposed; It was the aim of the present council to raise this loan, .and thus put, borough affairs on, a sound footing.. The present council were not responsible for the position as some of the work had been done before tile couhcil and engineer took office., In the original proposal, 'some three' years before he took office, it -was proposed to erect a xyservoir to hakl a million gallons of water, but for some reason or other there was one built to hold only 500,000 gallons. He wished ratepayers to understand that the positionhad -to be faced, and it might just as well be faced at'present. The scheme all through had been a great undertaking, and great difficulty had been experienced iu regard ,to it, Concluding, the Mayor said that the objects in view had been , given careful consideration, alld the wholo thing was certainly for the benefit of the borough. He felt sure that ratepayers would' be quite satisfied with themselves should the proposal he carried. Mr. Pieroy, a ratepayer, made certain Complaints about the septic tanks iu Alicetown, and asked if t'lio new pumps would rectify this trouble. The engineer replied ' that tho newpumps would vastly improve' the conditions in this connection. : After answering a number of questions, a hearty vote of thanks to -the Mayor and ■engineer concluded the meeting.
