Both these visits seem to have been somewhat premature, because until quite recently the special tribunal to deal with this, and other cases had not boon appointed. Sir Joseph Ward, towards the close of tho session of 191(1, explained that the claim was one for ,£oOO,Ol)0, and was made originally by an American' wlmier, who had settled in the country years ago, and whose successors claimed to be the possessors of certain lands now owned by the Crown, The lands arc in tho Auckland- province. The Solicitor-General will probably be absent from New Zealand for about'six months.
