SOLICITOR-GENERAL GOING HOME. a special Tribunal. , Mr, J. \V. Salmond (Solicitor-General) Js to leave Sor London oil Friday next to represent New Zealand before the special tribunal which has beoli set up to,' adjudicate upon the long-standing Webster claim. Br. Fiteliett accompanied Sir J. G, Ward to London in connection with this eowo, years ago, aaid last year Sir John Fiiidlay, on a similnr mission, accompanied the then Prime Jlitii-sler to London. Both these visits seem to have been somewhat premature, because until quite recently the special tribunal to deal with this, and other cases had not boon appointed. Sir Joseph Ward, towards the close of tho session of 191(1, explained that the claim was one for ,£oOO,Ol)0, and was made originally by an American' wlmier, who had settled in the country years ago, and whose successors claimed to be the possessors of certain lands now owned by the Crown, The lands arc in tho Auckland- province. The Solicitor-General will probably be absent from New Zealand for about'six months.
