SERVICE FOR MEN.
There was a good attendance at the monthly servico for meix at St. Mark's Anglican Church yesterday afternoon, Prior to the commencement of the service, Mr. W. J. Bobbins sang in'- good voice, "The Trumpet Shall Sound." Thc vicar (the Rev. C. F. Askew) took for his text Hebrew xii, 1-2: "Seeing ivo also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, etc." A y<jar ago, said the preacher, I stood in Westminster Abbey, and looked upon the statues of some of the. world's most famous men with "thoughts that lay too tleop for tears." There, side by side, were kid men of Hid most diverse qualities—in death not divided—and the .writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews iu the 11th chapter, to which the text clearly refers, bids as think of the famous characters in Jewish history —Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, anil others as examples of faith in God. What was the secret of their strength? They believed in God's goodness and Almighty power, so that by faith, Abel offered a raoro acceptable sacrifice than Cain, by faith Noah built an ark to the saving of his house, by faith Abraham wentout, not knowing whither he went, by faith Moses chose rather to suffer affliction with th,o people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. And if God could give gtiace to mm in those far-off days, so ran He. give strength to mftn to-dny to triumph over the world, the flesh, 'and. the devil.
