Berry on Obligant, wanted that • position too,' and - he beat me for it. Going past.the post, the first time I was about sixth with Undecided, who ' was my companion, praqtically, throughout. At the mile Hasknyne and Odessa, then Obligant. and and then Midnight Sun a : nd UndeSided wfts the order. The pace was a cracker, so by .mutual consent, Young and I decided to stay where, wo were. Soon after this there was a bang, but wo . could not see what caused it, but on pulling up after the raccj we w,ere told that Goldfinder had got on to Masterpiece's heels and was nearly down. Soon-after this .I. Eot the' only buinp of the 'journey by Bronze .stopping, nnd coming back on, to, -inc. However, it did not matter. . A spell did my horse good, but 'both Ilndecitied nnd Masterpiece left nve. the threefurlongs mark there were.in front of mo Haskayne and Odessa (both beaten), Sol' diers' Chorus going wisll,' and Undecided and Masterpiece. The last-named, went, very wide into the straight, and I reckoned it a sure thing for me to beat hini, but ivlien I reached him, lie was going as well'as my horse. It was now gettiUfc hard, but Jones drew .his stick first, and his horse ran in a trifle, but mine wont very generously, tind I got . there by a good head. Jones was thi) first to fcon. gratiilate me afterwards... The horse, is suppoFed to be-£L rogue, but .no horse could have gono moro kindly to-day. Why, at the bottom of ■ the straight /where; 'n rogue would be thinking of stopoing. lie was going.as. Fell as at any part of the, race."'
