[Bt "Sphsh."] REVISION OF CENTRE'S RULES, February 7 to 14—New Zealand Champioaships, at Wanganui, SARCASTIC LET/PER. The sarcasm. A correspondent writes:— In your swimming notes I notice 6omo criticism (spare the word) pf the Wellington Centre's revised rules.. I must say in thb first placo that I hiri pleased to read that your swimming'.editor "Splash" very carefully records that'such effusion does Hot emanate from his pen, but from that of a well-known local swimmer." . I regret that "Splash", did not eco fit to first refer such trash to cither myself or one of my capablo exocutivp so thot any wrong impression likely tb bo conveyed could have been, avoided, and finally, befofo roplying to your notes in detail, will let your correspondent alono with the remark that his' wonderful flow of oratory savours much, of the howl, of a disappointed onp who desires to vent his spleen at tho expense .of those who, have undertaken work neglected by previous centre, sub-coinmitteos. An Explanation? If your correspondent, had delved further into his copy of "May's Parliamentary Procedure," he would easily see that Rules 5 and 6 are totally dietiheb-tho ■former.reads: "Eaeh..club shall elect two delegated . ..,. to tho centre;" arid .this is followed in Rule 6 by, "ah exeoutivo cpmimitteo of ten / . . shall be elected by tho delegates, from tboir numbet and shall.carry, on the, work,. etc." So. far as his remarks regarding, dissatisfaction go, if such is the) case/I fail tb see it, as a full-meeting bf/.deletate's passed the frile' ii, question absolutely, without criticism. ■ Again, Can you imagine any, associatibn's 'business heirig 'carried on in' a businesslike iriinrier t)y at least thirty : six ,delef' atos?,. If ybiir is the 'sport e ovidently considers ho is, hbw would h'e-..sriccessfully run.,the .rugby,,. assopiatibi;'hockey, cficket, and vafioll's btlier. largo unions, y pr does his poor little narrow . mind . oily operate, to make extra, trouble .for already overworked..officials. He, quotes an easy solution of the difficulty, ,-and is. so. much wrapped up in. swimffl.iri'g as to be unaware that the Wellington Centre has. .eighteen affiliated clubs already,. Svifch. further new ones- loomirig up in the near future, instead pf twelve, as.lie states/ Again, he carefully avoids Rule .18 (riieetings), which compels' the exepritivb to-hold general meotings at least once monthly during the season, besides providing-for meetings at the secre tafy'e. discretion or on requisition. Rule 20 was discussed' and altered, but such alteration leaves the question open as to ifhether. any reason shall bo given ■for a refusal .to grant permits. Now, does this, misguided individual imagine for'a moment that any centre governing, a-branch of.sport is gomg-'to dp anything .that will bring it into disrepute? Some More Sarcasm. ..Rule '22 I prefer to pass as adopted, as the "hds-been" or never-iyaser' had again let his pen run ,riot—in fact, it leads me to think that he is afraid of W3 own"status—not meaning the one that.l have' -'given him above. I would like to ;ask the. well-known, one, who is to rule swiminiig, the centres or onybne who cares to put, on faces for sw'immers? Riilei,S2. Foblish fellow, do' ypri not,/-'.remembar . that, this' rule .is only , adopted, provisionally,, and •> is to'be .tli'oTbiigli'ly discussed by the in-, coining delegates, of whom I trust your cbrfespoiib/entiwill be one, so. that we can. have fee benefit of his, at present, back..dobf criticism. It is the centre's desire to build up what inighfc be, called ai Olyriipi'o of reserve, fund, from which. to draw, as may./ bo required; for touring purposes, etc., ot to aid, clubs, through, :&' bad. season. (Tli|s'"la.ttef' 'point'' Will. be•' brought, lip, when the rule cbines imder 'consideration.). the Conclusion. In conclusion, how very, gratifying it must bo to men of the calibre of Messrs. "Atkins,'' Wilton, and, Somerville to reail remarks of one who anonymously criticises what is considered by brbad-mihd;-ed men to be the finest, set of rules ever drafted for the gdvbmriient of any swimming, centre. Eurther thai this,.l -might mention that, rules revision has been be; fore the centre for.many years, and our present chairman, Mr. J. E. Atkins, is thb first one to gamely tackle and bring down, a sot which, I aui certain is 1 unsurpassed in. Now Zealand. Hifoftun-a'teiy,:-,Mr, Atkins, through business',- vrad absent from the. meeting at which thp Tilled were , adopted; pthefwise'- I imagine, thit .what slignt .'alterations ,wefo ihade would, ba'vo goip fofwafd :as fea.d-. ■ ~ Apologising for tfespassinig, upon. your :■ Space;- -bijt as I must defend my chaitmai and ihy.. cbntrb's Rules Revision Committee, I feel tio/t yipil will bo only dealing out justice, to, whom it is due by ' piblishing the am-, etb., % C. W. BLICK; ■ Hon. Secretary Wellirigton Centre; N^Z.
