Leahy, and. causing hita actual Wily harm. . Sub-Inspector Sheehan •conducted proceedings on behalf of thfe police. Accused pleaded not guilty. John Alfred Leahy-was the first witness for the police. He stated that he was a boarder in accused's house, No. 25 Martin Street, on October 23. OfL. that date he went to the assistance of accused's wife, as accused was "squabbling" with .her. He heard Widdas exclaim that lie Would "chop her head off-with the wood axe.". Witness secivred the axe and. took it away. Ho-than went ■ to-, his • Toom,but; subsequently he., heard. Widdas , again threatening his wife, aid during that .scene Widdas- knocked his wife down, and she screamed; At' the .time Widdas had a--razor in his hand., and witness pushed. him aside. Widdas : theft caught witness.by ilia throat, and slashed him with the razor, inflicting injuries on his' face, arm; and 'Wy. He did not remember more as ha fainted. Ho. had been a week in.hospital, and was still under' treatment. Br. A. W. Hogg gavo evidence as ro the injuries. ' , Other evidence was given by Jean Leahy, and Constable G, A. Gordme, who arrested Widdas. ',„.,, , ~ His Worship committed Widdas to the Supreme.Court for trial. OTHER OASES. - Shortts'. Ltd., wero fined 20s. and costs 7s. for allowing people to stand in the passage-ways of their theatre. For keeping his shop.open after 9 p>m.< Horace' William Lloyd was fined 205., with costs 7s. < ,-., ■-.■.'■' • ■ ' The following persons were fined for Hot sending their children to school:— Edward Laoner, 45., and costs 75.; Gcorgo Pinnock, 4s. and 75.; Frederick Thomas,, 10s. and costs 75.; W. P; Thomas, 2s. and ,7s.- costs; Henry Matthows, 2s. aid is. costs; Sanru*l Mason, 3s. and; coste 75,; W. C. Noot, 2s. and costs 75.; John Ryan, 10s. and costs 7s. . , ' '. Tho following cases of insobriety were dealt with -.-William Henry \London was Convicted and discharged, but was ordered to pay 10s.- as cost of a pane of glass which ho had damaged. Ho was also ordered to pay one guinea for medical expenses. Annie Winifred Dunn wis fined m in default 14 days' imprisonment. . A.'fine of £2, with Court costs 75., was imposed on George Short, who failed to take the oath of allegiance under the . Defence Act.
