It is reported that two .Germans were noticed recently in the neighbourhood of Prospect, the site of tie city waterworks, 22 miles-west of Sydney. Their actions being suspicious, they were shadowed, and eventually, arrested while making surveys and plans' of {he natural.features of the country. Subsequently they were released, as under the existing State law there is no power to arrest for espionage unless rt.person is surprised while taking maps oi , surveys on'a military reserve. ThfeS Japanese with a plane table and military survey instruments were disepvWed near Bafranjoey, in Broken Bay, on the north coast. When questioned only one spolw English, and that imperfectly, Investigations subsequently ' rwealed that they were Japanese Officers Speaking English well.. One was of high, tank, and had been through tho Eusso-Japaneso war. All have since departed for Japan.
