PATHETIC FATALITY. Hawcra, October 30. Jean M'Crackon, aged 22, met with an accident while cycling downhill on Sunday, when she lost control of her machine. Tho injuries sustained in tho fall were at first not considered serious, but, on Tuesday afternoon, internal complications supervened, 'and sho died to-day. The pathetic part of tho occurrence is Miss M'Cracken was to have been married today.

TIMARU A. & P. SHOW. Timaru, October 30. Tho Timaru A', and P. Show opened today, in good weather, with tho judging of the sheep and sonlo tho horses. Sheep arc shown in good numbers, but with little competition in any of the breeding classes. Tho farmers' fat lines are in very good condition. This season's lambs also aro very woll grown, suggesting a good season for tho freezing works. COUNCIL & ENGINEER. Timaru, October 30. Tho Timaru Borough Council, last night at the close of a long inquiry into complaints regarding tho Borough Engineer's Department, resolved to ask tho engineer to resign. Mr. Leed, in reply to charges, said that theso only referred to small details, which, under the pressure of important constructing work, ho had been unable to attend to properly.

AUCKLAND REFORM CLUB. Auckland, October 30. Tho Auckland Reform Club's premises were thrown open to its four hundred members to-day. Tho official opening has been deferred till tho l'rinio Minister's next'visit to the city.

STEAMER DOTO ARRESTED. Auckland, October 31. This morning the Marshall of the YicftAdmiralty Court placed under t.vrcst tho small steamer Doto, which is .-•iigaßed in trawling business off tho New Zealand coast. Tho warrant of tiro Court was affixed to the main mast with tho official red tape, and the Court bailiff was then installed in charge of the vessel. Tho action arose out of a claim for a fairly largo sum which has boon lodged against the owners of tho vessel.
