AUCKLAND FISHING SEASON.
FAVOURABLE REPORTS. (By Telegrapb.-Special Correspondent,) Auckland, October 30. Tho fishing season in tho Auckland difl< trict will open on Friday. Thero is ovcry prospect that the season is going to be a successful one, for most favourable reports aro being 'daily received oi the oondition of the fish. In conversation with Mr. W. 11. Hazard (chairman of tho Acclimatisation Society), u reporter learned yesterday that the local streams were in good order, awl tho fish were in excellent condition. This ;>articulaily applied to tho Henderson River and Canty 8 Creole, where tho society had recently liberated no fewer than 1200 rainbow voarlings. Tlio Waihou, AVainuikartil, Ungaruo, and Waimea. Rivers ' had also been reported upon most favourably, aiul it was expected that anglers would mnko their first excursions to well-known points on those streams. Thero was also ft likelihood that tho streams in tho Clcvedo i district, tho Southern Wairoa, and Mai - ngatawiiiri would be largely iiatromsed, as cood trout hutl been, reported there. WiA regard to tho liotorua district, which lias been in tho post such an excellent attraction from the angler s point of view, and especially for tho oversea, tourist, Mr. Hazard said that thero wore no indications of tho sport dwindling, for tho lakes and streams wero very fully, stocked with fish. The trout in this district were, of course, growing very Gradually smaller iu sizo, bccauso the food supply in tho waters was ever on (ho decrease. This season, how e\ or, tho fish had spawned well, and there we o still abundant supplies. This apphodJo tho beautiful Taupo district, as well, and tho lake thero was reported to bfl productive of excellent fishing, lhcro was absolutely no truth m tho assumption that Wiso tho fish in this district *ero smaller they wero diseased. Iho toed, supply in tho lakes and streams was decreasing naturally, becauso of tho largo number of trout in tho waters, so that a natural deduction was a smaller aw ace sizo in the wholo of .the fish. Iho Waikato, Mr. Hazard continued, was also showing indications of being a good ashing stream, as tho fish wero increasing, and tho continual stocking by the society had had a good effect.
