MASTERTON NOTES.
(Bi TelesraDh.—SDecinl Correspondent.) Masterton, October 30. A coso was commenced in the Court to-day before his Honour tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) and a jury, jn which Arthur P. Whatman, sheep-farmer, claimed from Abraham and \\ llliams. Stock and station agents, a sum of £iOO for alleged breach of covenant. Mr. F""'* lay, K.C., appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Skerrett, K.C., for defendant. In tho statement of claim it was alleged that, under a covenant of lease of a property near Greytown, defendants had undertaken to preserve plantations and water courses. It .was alleged that this covenanted not been observed as the plantations had been destroyed, and the water courses seriously injured by stock. Tho r,aso is likely to occupy the Court all day to-morrow. . At a public meeting held to-night it wits decided to accord a 'suitable reception to the Canadian Cadets who are expected to visit this town next week. During the month of October two bankruptcies have been recorded in tho Wairarapa. Masterton borough has not produced a single bankruptcy so far this year. The foundation stone of the new Presbyterian Church at Lansdowne is to be laid to-morrow by Dr. Gibb, of Wellington. A rally of orangemen has been held hero during the last day or two. Visitors from Talmerston North, Wellington, and Petono were present, '
