TAINUI, FROM LONDON. About four hours sooner than the was expected, the Shaw, Suvill R.M.S. Taim'.i arrived nt Wellington from London yes- ' terday. The vessel anchored in the stream ' at 2.50 p.m., anil subsequently berthed at 1 the King's Wharf. I The liner left tho Home port on September 12 with 16 first, 75 second, and 450 third-class passenger* on board. She arrived at Plymouth tho following day, and continued her journey to TencrifTe on September 14. Good weather was experienced through the Bay of Biscay, and tho Canary Islands' port was yiade on tho morning of September 19. The Tainui left for Cape Town tho same afternoon. Cool weather was experienced in the tropics, and the usual imports were held on board. The South African port was reached on the morning of October 4, and, after taking in 12C0 tans of coal, departuro was taken for Hobart. While crossing tho Southern Ooean fine weather generally prevailed, save for some very cold pnaps, and hail and snow on one or two occasions. The vessel arrived at Hobart on October 23, and commenced the final stago of her journey nt/ 2.30 p.m. on October 24. At Hobart 800 lons of cargo and 5 first, 5 se;ond, and 38 third-class passengers were lanied. Exceptionally line weather was- experienced crossing tho Tasman Sea, there being a light southerly wind nrd a south-westerly swell. For two days steam from Wellington the Tainui logged 14 knot^. Captain T. Moffat-t is still in command of tho Tainui, hie officers being as follow:— Chief. Mr. F. Greene; second, Mr. J. 11. Gaskell; third, Mr. YT. 11. Hartman; fourth, Mr. J. S. Wishart. Mr. Geo. Webb is chief refrigerat--ing euginoer, and Mr. R. Bond is second. Mr. J. Crabb is in chareo of the wireless station, and Dr. J. 11. E. Jarvis is ship's surgeon. . SURREY EXPECTED TO-DAY. Up till an early hour this morning there was no sign of tho F. and S. Line's steamer Surrey, from Liverpool, via Auckland. The vessel left tho northern port at 6.15 a.m. on Saturday for Wellington, and should have put in an appearance yesterday. No doubt the heavy southerly weather on Saturday has been responsible for keeping her back. She should make port this morning, and on arrival will berth at the Taranaki Street Wharf. NBBEHANA" AT AUCKLAND. •. An arrival at Auckland from London, via way ports, at 4 p.m. yesterday, was tho Tyser liner Nerehana. The vessel is due at Wellington about November 9. IOn September 13 orders wero placed by the P. and O. Company for four new passenger and cargo lincre for its LondonCalcutta and London-Japan services. Tho vessels arc to be practically sister ship's, and each will be of about 9000 gross tons. Two of the vessels arc to bo built by Messrs. Oammell, Laird, and Co., of Birkenhead. The Canterbury Steamship Co.'b Storm will leave Wellington for Plcton and Wanganui to-day. . The signal station at Wellington Heads reported that the Awahou, boun dfor Blackhead, passed at 8.15 p.m. on Sunday. The Union steamcr Kauri arrived at Auckland from Newcastle with 4300 tons of coal, on Saturday. On completion of discharge tho Kauri docks for .survey nnd overhaul, and subsequently returns to Newcastle. Tho Union Company's collier Poherua passed Wellington Heads, bound east, at noon yesterday. The Now Zealand Shipping Co.'b Hnranui Is expected to clear Liverpool on November ii for New Zealand ports direct. Sho should nrrke hero about January 15. 'Mr. Foxloy, who was second officer of the R.M.B. Tainui, left tho vessel this time at Loudon to undergo Royal Naval Reserve drill. slr. Charles W. Clark, of Ohristchurch, has been successful in gaining lilb chief marine engineer's certificate in London. Laden with timber, tho Union Company's new steamer Katoa left I'outo (Kaipara) for Sydney at 11.45 a.m. yesterday.
