A single man named John Ballard, aged 38, residing at Newmarket, was killed at Newmarket lost evening by being run over first by a motor-car and. then by a tramcar. BODY FOUND ON THE BEACH. Oamaru, October 27. Tho body of a young man named Harry Watson, who disappeared last Sunday evening, was found on the beach this morning, .evidently having been in tho water'since his disappearance. The deceased was under.the impression ho suffered from consumption, and this preyed on his mind. BURNT TO DEATH. Carterton, October 26. A little girl named Mary Jane Eayncr, infant daughter of Frank Rayner, of To Whiti, near Gladstone, was' burnt to death yesterday. It is presumed she played with matches when her parents wero out milking. When they returned the child's" clothes were in flames, and sho was shockingly burnt. Sho succumbed to her injuries a few.hours later. HANDBAG SNATCHERS. . :'..-■ Auckland,.October 26. The. young men who wero captured after a chase yesterday appeared before Mr. E. Rawson, S.M., this morning on a .charge that they had . stolen, a handbag. The accused are named William Predk. .Murray, aged 19, and Sydntey Power, aged 20. Both are young Londoners who arrived together at .Auckland from Sydney about 10 weeks ago. Accused were remanded till Tuesday, when'(the detective remarked) about 20 charges will br. brought against them. Accused have coo fessed to the greater number of thefts of handbags which have been renorted from various offices'and hotels during the last few weeks, among their hauls being ono containing about .£3O in cash. i?
