SUMMARY AND FORECAST;
Present indications arc for strong southerly winds with showery and changeable wea/th-er generally—the barometer unsteady, but n- rising tendency everywhere. Seas will probably be heavy on tho East Coast of the North Island. A cyclone has developed off East Cape, and southerly winds have increased, strong to gale. A south-easterly pale ajid barometric pressure 29.36 inches is now reported at East Cape, and a southerly gale at Capo Campbell. Heavy rain showers have been experienced, especially on the East Coast of the North Island.

DISTRICT REPORTS. 'From Our Special Correspondents.) Feilding, October 24.-Very cold night; showery and cold all day. Shannon, October 24.—Showery. The llaimwatu River is overflowing its banks, owing to up-country rains. All low-lying country is under water. Hastings, October 24.—Rain fell heavily and continuously last night, clearing at about ten this morning. The weather ie still unsettled. Wanganui, October 24.—Du1l morning; heavy rain in tho afternoon and evoning. Featherston, October 24.—Showery and cold. Greytown, October 24—A very cold and showery day; 6unshine at intervals.
