STOREMEN'S MEETING.
A meeting of tho Wellington Merchants' Assistants' Union (storcmen's branch) was held in the Queen's Chambers Inst evening, Mr. J. Meo presiding. ■It was decided that the secretary (Mr. I?. A. Simpson) be instructed to make an active canvas for membership. It was also reported that there were a large number of names already on tho books of'.the union, tho increase liaving taken place rinco the award had been announced.
It was decided to make the entrance fee 55., and the subsequent payments sixr ponce a week. During the course of the evening the new award wns read by the secretary.
The following resolution was passed:— "That the members of this union tenner their sympathy with the Waihi strikers in their prolonged struggle, nnd strongly protest against the action of tho Government in gaoling the said strikers, who, in our opinion, have committed no breach of the peace, and are fully entitled to their freedom and from further molestation of tho police."
