BIG PURCHASES OF VANCOUVER PROPERTY. The following appears in the "Daily Province," Vancouver, of September 16:— That Dr. W. A. Chappie, M.P., of London (formerly of Wellington) who left Vancouver last week after a stay of about a month in this city, bought Vancouver property with an aggregate, value of approximately 600,000 dollars, was learned to-day when the details of another purchase by the London capitalist, becamo known.
Tho property on tho south-east corner of Kobson and Burrard Streets, owned by Mr. A. F. .Perry, was sold to Dr. Chappie last weok for approximately 150.000.
dollar.--. As the property has a frontage of 120 feet on Robson Street, the purchase price was 1250 dollars a front foot, the highest figure, reported in a Robson Street realty deal for some time. The propertv has a (5-foot frontage oil Biu'rard Street. At the present time the property is occupied by a three-story brick building, winch is used for store and office purposes. The tenants of the building have n Icnse on tlio premises for four years, but Dr. Chappie has announced that at
1 the expiration of the lease ho will erect 0 a. modern ton-story structure on the. corB ner. Ten years ago Mr. Perry purchased the property for 18,000 dollars. ' Dr. Chappie purchased the Bute Street a Hospital at 78G Bute Street last week x from Mrs. Simon J. Tnnistall for 85,000 dollars as previously reported in u "The Prorince," and it is also known that he has bought sev- ' cral pieces of property on Slain Street, 1 near Harris, paying large sums in every instance. Men who are somewhat familiar with Dr. Chappie's negotiations in , Vancouver, assert that he spent more ; than 600,000 dollars in acnuiring I city property during hie " stay 1 here. They also state that Dr. Chappie said ho was not buying the property for speculative purposes, but intends to improve every piece he purchased by erecting somo costly modern , bnildines in the near future. Dr.' Chappie, told several friends that ho had a firm conviction Vancouver was : destined to become the largest city in Can'ada and the greatest port on, the Pacific Coast and that he had no hesitnncy whatever in investing enormous sums in city property.
