In tko House of Commons, Mr. LloydGeorge, Chancellor of tho Exchequer, stated that tho Government would increase tho medical benefit under the Insurance Act, including drug?, to Bs. (id. per insured person per annum. This would involvo nn additional nnnunl outlay of ,£1,050,000. Including extras and the cost o! tuberculosis treatment the Government proposed to assure the doctors of 7s. per head of the insured population, .and Is. Gd. would bo assigned to drugs. Tho extra sixpence assigned to drugs would be added to tho remuneration of the doctors if the drugs were not required. Tho Exchequer will defray ,£1,650,000, and if there were abnormal circumstances tho Central Fund, established under the Act, would make a special grant for drugs. Sir James Barr, president of the British Medical Association, states that Mr. Lloyd-George's terms will form the basis of an agreement, but the problem is not entirely a monetary one.
