At Flcmington-Ladios' Man and Harpist did half .a milo in .Msec. Flavian was absent. Ho is not seriously amiss. NOTES AND COMMENTS. TRACK GALLOPS AT TREXTHAM. [Br GLEUcofe.] As in the. city, eo at Trentham, a good deal of rain fell on Tuesday night, but at 5 o'clock yesterday morning there seemed gallops. In ten minutes' time, however, the wind commenced to blow' strongly from fair prospect of fine weather for the track tho south-east, and a heavy shower of rain-came on and continued to fall steadily for over an hour. It was followed by others. . Very few gallops of any consequence were recorded, trainers being cpii tent to allot, their charges useful work. The grass gallop, just inside tho rails, wne open, and afforded fair going in. tho early part of the morning.
The Porirua horses wore first to appear, the rain commencing a-s the first of them galloped. St. Felix (Deeloy) and Parky (Telford) iiaished together at the end of a half-milo sprint, ;St.- Felix being on tlio outside.
Styx (Telford) and ATatiatia (Deeloy) were scnt'-'tb' gallop half a mile together, but tho former got 'a lot the best of the start, and also held the advantage at tho finish.
Gipsy Belle, Dearest, Hoopoe, and other members of tho team were also giveu useful sprinting.
. Undecided and Brown Trout, both with lightweights, galloped a useful Touud in company, the last mile taking lmiu. 53sce. Undecided, who had the outside going, shaped particularly well.
Elwcll (T. Kemp) was sent over tho steeplechase, fences, and jumped satisfae.. torily, without showing any extraordinary dash.
Among other horses which worked before breakfast were* Ladrone, Mira, Gay Lawless, Semaphore, and Bracken.
Nothing of a sensational nature was accomplished after breakfast. The horses at work included Bronze, Gava'nec, ErincngaTde, Adclicia, Gvrberga, Lady Moutoa, Domino, Potoa, Gondolier, Midnight Sun, and Jason.
Sunbird,(Martian—Mary,of Argyle) has been, withdrawn from the Wellesley Stakes.
. Luko Wilson, who will rido Midnight Sun in the New Zealand Cup, leaves for Riceartoii.on Tuesday next.
C. Emerson will ride Odessa, iu the Wellington Handicap at Treutham on Saturday.
S. Waddell was expected at Trenthaw yesterday with ten horses. These will include Haskayne, who is a popular fancy in doubles for the Wellington Handicap.
Inquiries were being made for Bobrikoff on the tracks at Trentliani yesterday, but the black champion had not then arrived.
Mr. A. Samuel, who takes a prominent part in tlio control of local and Dominion trotting, was an interested spectator at the track gallops at Trentliani yesterday.
At the Hnwkc's Kay show last week several ex-racers were seen in the prizering, and amongst the number who took honours ivore Mr. K. J.' Watt's Maori King, Mr. W. Cooper's Full liate, and Mi'. J. K. M'Donuld's To Knhurangi and Aotca.
A returned visitor to the Dnnedin meeting states that Jan has now a very soro mouth, and he must have given his riders a lot of trouble in slopping him from bolting. The Charlemagne 11 colt is known as a very hard puller, and when working at Porirua ho was always ridden by a hurdle jockey.
Aii item of interest from Awapuni is ' that Polymorphous will this year serve a few of his owner's marcs at the Highden . stud. The Multiform horse did not turn out quitd so good as was. expected when raoing on the flat, but he is a rare cut oi a stallion, and if ho goes to tho stud his ' excollent breeding should commend him to owners of brood mares.
Both Garance and Gorberga will carry the Highdeu colours in the Wclleslcj Slakes at Trontham on ' Saturday. As previously slated, A. Oliver will have the mount on.Garance, but up till yesterday no jockoy had been engaged for Gcrberga. B. Declcy would have been given the mount, but his services will be required for the Porirua candidate, Hoopoe. Signer's half-sister, Moorish Maid, trlivcd at Waikanae last evening on a vL-it to the imparled horse Bcnzonmn.
A. Hall arrived from Wonganui by tho late train last night, bringing two horses. The Bushy Park yearling? reached Weilington at 11 o'clock last, night after a' journey of about 18 hours from Kai Iwi. This morning the youngsters will Ik< at OBricns stables for inspection, ami ihis afternoon they will bo shipped bv Ibo Lyttelton steamer, en route to Christ, ciiurch, where they are to be sold next month.
