HOME RULE BILL.

i p» SEPARATE LABOUR LAWS, fir TelairrMh-Press Association-Cony rlshl ; . (Eeo. October 22, 10.15 p.m.) London, October 22. The House of Commons, by 294 votes to 198,-has refused to exclude factory legislation from tho scope of tho Irish Parliament under tlio Homo Bule Bill. Mr. Balfour, ex-Leader of. tho Opposition, in speaking to the amendment to exclude this legislation, recalled Mr. Churchill's proposal to create seven Parliaments for tho United Kingdom, and asked whether Yorkshire and Lancashire Vwould have their own labour laws. ROMANTIC QUEST. ——V • EX-MAYOR'S SEARCH FOB SISTER HE _;'=• . HAS NEVER SEEN. Mr. Thomas C°le, an ex-Mayor of Dunedin,' New Zealand, is engaged in an interesting quest in England' for a sister he has never seen (says tho overseas "Daily Mail" of September 11). Over seventy years ago there resided cither nt Thirslc, Yorkshire, or 'very near the town a certain' Mr. and Mrs. Cole. Owing to business not being of the best, they went in search of fortune to London, leaving behind them their eldest child—a girl—with her: grandparents. In their new home a son was born, and it is ho who is now in search of his sister. This son, Mr, Thomas Cole, a cabinetmaker, emigrated to Dunedin, New Zea-land.-and established a lucrative business there. Last year Mr. Cole was Mayor of the town. This year he decided to visit England, and • search for his sister, who will: be about seventy-three years of age. Curiously enough, about three weeks ago, wi Miss Cole, a resident in the South of England, applied to Mr. W.'D. Batemiin, parish clerk of Thirsk, for the marriage certificate of James Cole and Elizabeth Horsman, who were married at Thirsk in ■ October, 1807. Whether this inquiry has any connection with! Mr. Cole's quest remains to be seen.
