NEW RIFLE CLUBS.
THIRTY-FOUR TO BE FORMED. Tho proposals of the Department of Defence wit:i regard to the formation of riile clubs are- explained in a return presented to the House of Representatives last evening, on the niotion of Mr. Myers (Auckland East). It states that (lie number of hew clubs which will be established under the proposed new scheme within ilie next two years is thirty-four. This is in addition to the 190 clubs already in existence, and none of which, it is presumed, will disband within the next two yeors. The Miniated additional annunl expenditure which these clubs will entail, including maintenance grant and tho free issue of rides and ammunitioin, is JC7521. Tliis amount includes the additional expenditure which increased membership to the existing clubs and to the new clubs will eintail by posting; to them 35 per cent, of those liable to undergo military training," instead of to territorial units.
