SPORT WITH THE RIFLE. AT TRENTHAM AND ELSEWHERE. Calm weather, with a threatening 6kj overhead, prevailed cm Saturday afternoon for the week-end riflo competitions at Tronthnin and elsewhere. In addition to tho various equads from tlio riflo clubs, 130 rank and file of tho Fifth Infantry Regiment, with H officers, paraded ou tho mounds, and continued the uiuekctry course sot out for tho regulation closefiring. Details of tho scoring in tho various competitions are as follow: — KARORI RIFLE CLUB. As a preliminary to tho club's cham< pionship series, which are to commence on, Saturday next, October 20, tho Karori Riflo Club fired a one day'e match tor trophies presented by, Mr. W. H. Tisdall and tho club (conditions 300 and 600 yards, tea shots «it each). Tho prizes allotted fell to two of tho club's scratch men, RUm. J. E, Tnrncr, securing tho first, with a score of 95 out of tho possible 100, and Rflm. J. burns the second, with a ecoro of 94. Tho Suburbs Defence Rifle Club com* pletcd tho second match in the first scries on Saturday for trophies presented by H. T. Pitcher, Gco. Winder, and tho club. Tho club intends to observe October 28—Labour Day—as a Indies' day, when all lady friends and supporters or the club will be invited. His Majesty's veterans will also bo invited that day, and firing in the teams matches will start at 10 o'clock. For tho afternoon teams matches have been arranged with the Highland Defence Rifle Club. During the day a ladies' match will be fired. For November 9 the final shoot in the first scries, a special prize of a sido of lamb has been presented by Symonds Bros., butchers, for competition.
