CLUB OPENINGS. Several clubs opened their greens for the season on Saturday afternoon. Owing to tho rain which fell on Friday play was not indulged in on every green as the turf was found to be too soft nnd iniprcssionnble, but on some of tho firmer greens play took place. The official opening of tho Hntaitai Club took place at 2.30 p.m., and thanks to the beautiful weather there was an attendance of over 250 members, their wives and daughters and friends. There was still room for about 20 mote members, and he urged, members to fill up the strength. He thanked the ladies of Hataitai and Kilbirnio for their efforts in making tho club so popular by attending to tho afternoon tea and generally gracing tho proceedings, and trusted that they would continue to interest themselves in its welfare. (Applause.) The'"jack" was then j thrown by Mrs. Gnlvin and the green was declared open for the season. The new croquet lawn was then opened by the president's wife, who acknowledged- the timely gilt of a set cf mallets an'd hoops from Mrs. P. Laurenson, wife of the ex-president. Jtr. F.
