YACHTING.

■r6RT NICHOLSON CLUB MEETS. , A general meeting of the Porth Nicholson Yacht Club was held at the Boat Harbour on Friday evening-, the commodore (Mr. H. Chisholm) presiding. ■ The following fixtures were agreed upon:—Opening day, November 10; first series of races, November 23, December 7, and December 14 j second series, January .11, January 2 (regatta day), January 25,. and February 1; ocean race, February 22; ladies' race, March 8. It was decided that the maximum crew number on a, first-class yacht when racing will be nine, and for second-class yachts live. The entranco fee was fixed at ss. for each series. During tho coming season tho club is to put on two races for tho patiki class. After considerable discussion, it was decided to abolish the racing permits. It was also resolved by a large majority to use the Mark Foy system of starting" for the coming; season. Mr. P. Frcyberg suggested that a race should be. held at the end of the season for all yachts which had not won a prize. Tho suggestion was put in the form of a motion and was carried. Owing to business engagements, Mr. W. Moore resigned the position of rear-com-modore. Mr. R. Renner was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr. White, ownor of the Matangi, notified the club of his intention to donate a trophy to the club for second-class yachts. Mr. Wilkinson (Auckland) announced his intention of donating a trophy, valued at ,£3 35., to be allotted as the club may think desirable. During the course of Bonie remarks, Mr. Wilkinson mentioned that Lovd Islington had donated a valuable trophy for competition amongst tho six metre yachts of New Zealand. The speaker expressed the opinion that if somo enthusiast in Wellington built a six-metre yacht he was sure that two or three could be built in Auckland, -and then a rnce could Ik arranged for tlio trophy.
