MIRAMAR COUNCIL.
: ♦ A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, the Acting-Mayor (Councillor' Bowie) presiding. ' Councillors Bell, Telford, Stone, Smith, and'Grigs'were also present. It was moved by Councillor Grigg, and carried: "That boys and girls under tho age' of 18 years employed in the city lie allowed to travel' over the Miramar Borough lines at the same rate as school children, vie.. 2s. per month." A letter was received from Mr. H. D. Bel), M.l\, in which he : stated that, the Hon. A. L. Herdinan had stated in the House that the Government intended to introduce legislation enabling'-local authorities borrowing otherwise than from the Government to invest their sinking funds as they pleased. Mr! "Herdinan had intimated, however, that. local authorities borrowing from the Government would still be required'- to invest their sinking'funds with the Public Trustee. The City Council wrote Stating that they could not grant, the council's request. th.it the Miramar engineer be granted facilities for • ascertaining the cost of running the city trnmcars in the borough. ' ■ '' I The Tramway Beard wrote to the effect that in view of present concessions to workers they could not see -their way to grant the council's application for. concessions to apprentices. Minimal', Ltd., wrote stating that they had agreed to set. aside an area of about II acres for, a public park, and they asked that an agreement be entered into with reference to tenure. The engineer that the present deficit in connection with the drainage work was. due lo the, increased cost of laying stnnewa.v sewers in Miramar and Knrnki Bay. . The Ferry Service Committee set up at last meeting recommended thai a public meeting be called to consider what action should be taken ill the event of the Ferry Company discontinuing the service to Seatoun and Karakft Bay,. It was decided to arrange for a committee of those interested to meet Ihe council'and discuss the uuitter. It was decided (o take a poll on the loan proposal oil November I!, and to call a public meeting to discuss the proposals on November 1.
