SUMMARY AND FORECAST.
Present indications arc for northerly wind?, etrong to gale, veering by west to Boutlierly, northward o£ Hokitika and Kaikoura, and south-easterly winds prevailing elsewhere. Heavy rain probable generally, especially on the East Coast of the South Island, with rivers rising. Snow may .be expected on hig-hor lerclG, and colder weather following. The barometer is due to rise everywhere after about ten hours, and probably high. Cloudy and unsettled weather' hae prevailed, heavy rain has fallen in many parti? of the South Island, northerly winds, strong to pale, have prevailed to the northward of Kaikoura and Hokitika and strong to south-easterlies elsewhere The barometer has fallen in the north and risen in the south.
