THORNDON CLUB'S ; ANNUAL REPORT.

The annual report of the Thorndon Tennis Club states; - "The year -closed . With a membership of 105 playing .memi bers and 15 honorary non-playing, members. During the' season . two championships and four handicap events were 1 played.. The'members entered freely in ', each event, and some interesting, and close finishes resulted. Tho handicapping- r<*-fleeted-great credit on tho handicappers. The club was well represented at the New Zealand Championship meeting .and at . the Pahiatua, Rangitikei, l'almerston North and Wellington meetings. It is pleasing: to note that your representatives worthily upheld.the honour.of the club. In tho inter-provincial match Wellington v. Canterbury played .at Christchurch on January 2, 1912, the following of our members gained representative honours:— "Misses Butterworth, Nunneley, and Simpson, and Messrs. Peacock, Fisher, WhiteParsons, and A. Young. Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's inter-club competi-. tions.—A ladies' team was entered for the shield grade, playing - five matches, winning four, and losing one. The' team gained second place in the competition. Dunn" the winter the. courts were topped dressed. The club .is fortunate .in possessing the services of Mr. W. Horswood, to whose care and attention the present, condition of the courts testifies. It will be noted that during the year a small reduction has been made in the debit balance, which now stands at ,£SO 7s. 7d. In view of the annual deficiency the committee after careful consideration of -the | position are forced to recommend an increase of the subscription (viz., men 10s., ladies 55.), and so provide an adequate amount to meet ordinary working expenses of the club and gradual extinction of the existing "deficiency, and place the finances on a sound basis. An amendment of Rule 5 must bo passed in order to give effect to the above recommenda: tion. - Owing to his departure for Queensland, Mr. S. L. Wilson' resigned his position of honorary auditor to the- club on February 29, 1012, and Mr. R. N. Iv. Swanston was elected to tho vacancy. Mr. J.'.Cartei- resigned"the lion, secretaryship, on .November 4, 1911, owing to - his removal to Palmerston- North. Mr.- A. L. Berry- was elected to the vacancy. On February 13, Miss B. Miles resigned, from the committee, but as tho season was well advanced no appointment was made to tha vacancy. The committee desires to placo upon record its regret at the death of Mr. Hugh Pollen,, a former president and prominent memberof the club for many, .ygjirs - past. Tho outlook for tlio coming ''season is particularly promising, and your committee hope for a continuanco of - the |-ps>sperity enjoyed by the club in the' ffPast/'-Wi' "{it " j, !Mr. lias, forwarded tho follow--'ihg notice of motion:—"That Rule.s he, nliered to read as-follows:—'The entrance fee for playing members "shall be, -for-" ■men, 21s/; for Indies,' 10s.'Cd.;" and the annual subscription shall be, for men; .£3 10s., and for ladies,-'JS2 155., duo on the Ist day of November in each year.
