LOWER HUTT COUNCIL.

. f A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held Inst, night. It was Attended by: Tho Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) and Councillors Hoots, Hobbs, Ball, Clondon,. Dawson, Hawthorn, Hodgens, aiid Knight. The Petone Technical, School made application for tho council's contribution. It was resolved to forward a cheque for <£20.

Messrs. Chapman, Skerrett, Wylie, and Tripp reported preliminaries in connection with tallies to be taken on the Hutt Road, and pointed out that Mr. Wilford suggested that Onslow; Petone, and Hutt should combine to take an .independent tally of the traffic on the road. There was a danger that Hutt might lie credited with traffic outside its district., and as Petone was taking tallies, Hutt should keep a check. The Mayor said that he had given instructions to have three men placed at ICoro Koto bridge. It was not uecofsnrv to place men ' anywhere „ else. Ho would like his action approved. The council agreed, and it was. resolved, to mako a recommendation that the. names and addresses' of all vehicle owners l>o taken if instructions had no,t already been given to this effect..

Mr. J. Mitchell . requested that the storm-water pipes running across Price's Road should be removed, a.s tliey were draining on . his property. Referred to Works Committee for a report. Mr. -Riddifovd asked tliat tho Middlemarsh drain lie'cleaned out. The engineer reported that tho niatter luid been attended to. '

Two ratepayers:were granted assistance with' tliciv drainago. The following .recommendations by the Works Committee were adopted That, tlv sum of ,£SO lie spent on repairing Waterloo Road and Pretoria Street.
