RIFLE SHOOTING.

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. ; ANNUAL MEETING. ' The annual meeting of the Wellington Rifle Association .was lield at tho Garrison Hall last evening, President'H. Marshall (ICarori Rifle Club) in the chair. There was an attendance of seventeen members. Tho Executivo Committee in its annunl report referred with satisfaction to the success which had attendedthe first year of the new association, which had been reorganised in November last, subsequently to the 'demise of the Garrison Hiflo Association. Despite the fact that only a month was left to arrange for the annual two days' prize meeting at Trentbara on January 1 and 2, the gathering was a representative one, and highly sue-' . cessful, quite a large number of the competitors coming l'rom the South Island. Although the association had absolutely no money., to begin with, the attractive, programme arranged enabled the executive to carry out tho meeting without de-ducting-one penny from the prize fund. The question of making tho Wellington Rifle Association's annual fixture tho most important outside of the New Zealand meeting was submitted to members as a live one for the consideration of the annual meeting. Tho association was in a good position financially.' Although tile prize meeting resulted in a small debit balance, the assets were sulficient to balance the deficiency. The profits from the Tecent picture entertainment organised, chiefly through the efforts of President H. Marshall. were expected to reach -from ;£2O to .£3O by the time the final returns come in.

The thanks of tho association were duo to Messrs. W. H. Field, J. Duthie and Co., Hadfiold and Co.. J. Myers and Co., F. Grady, G. T. White, British Empire Trading Co., Walker and Hall, E. W-. Mills and Co., ICaiapoi Woollen Co., Stewart Timber Co., W. H. Tisdall, J. Bl C'larkson and Co., Alcock and Co., and the New Zealand Clothing Co. for trophies presented.

The chairman referred with appreciation to the good work of the senior cadets in assisting in tho sale, of tickets for the recent picture entertainment. Tho Boys' Institute Cadets had' topped the list with the sale of ,£5 worth, tho Technical School lads coming second with a guinea's worth. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. - The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:—Patron, the Minister for Defence (tho Hon. James Allen); vice patron, Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G.; president, the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. D. M'Laren); vice-presidents, LieutenantColonel W. G. Duthie, Lieutenant-Colonel C. I). Mackintosh, Lieutenant-Colonel F. J. Courtney, Lieutenant-C'olonol C. Harcourt Tumor, Major Sim, and Messrs. ,T. G. Newton, W. and A. Ballinger, and W. Nidd, the Hons. A. L. Herdinan, F. M. B. Fisher, H. I). Bell, Messrs. T. M. AYilford, A. H. Hindmash, and Dr. Newman; Executive Committee, President. H. Marshall, Deputy-President IV. Judd (ICarori Rifle Club), President Burridge, Rifleman J. M'Lachlan (Petono Rifle Club), President W. Hobbs (Eastbonrno Rifle Club), President K. Gallichan, Rifleman C. R. Graham (Suburbs Rifle Club), President J. M'Donald. Rifleman S. R. Shnunon (Highland Rifle Club), Majors D. Matbeson and R. St. J. Captain S_. Bolton, and Lieutenants Hastings and 'Nicholson; secretary, Mr. H. 0. Browne; treasurer, Lieutenant Gasquoine; auditor, Mr. E. Gnlleclian.

It was agrcqd that the programme for the next prizo meeting at Trentliam, in January next, should be on the lines of last year's programme, and that the targets for the events at, the prize meeting should be as prescribed for the New Zealand Championship meeting. It was' further decided to provide matches for senior cadets, and to arrange for a senior cadet championship, in addition to senior and' junior teams matches and extra tyro prizes for tho encouragement of Territorials.

On the motion of Rifleman W. G. Fellingham, seconded by Rifleman W. Jackson, it was unanimously resolved:

"That this association.expresses its deep appreciation of the successful efforts of the New Zealand Rifle Club's executive on behalf of riflo sjiooting and rifle associations, and extends to that body a hearty vote of thanks."
