PICTURE SHOWS.

FULLERS' PICTURES. Fullers' pictures, aro still showing at tho Skating Rink in Vivian Street where tho prices of admission have jiow been reduced to sixpence and threepence. Tonight an entirely new scries will be screened and the., programme promises to lie up to the usual standard., THE NEW .THEATRE.; ; ' "The Sins of the Fathers," an effective narrativo of modern life dealing with tho failing of a hereditary dipsomaniac, will bo introduced to-day and to-night at MacMahon and Donnelly's continuous pic.turea at the New Theatre. The story is excellently conceived. Mr. Archer, elocutionist, will recite the counsel's speech for the defence during the scene in which the principal stands charged with murder. "The Sins of the Fathers" will bo supported by those subjects wliich provided enjoyment at all sessions on Saturday. A complete series of new supporting items aro announced for to-morrow. "An artist's Model" will bo tho next "feature.

"THJ3 GOVERNOR'S DAUGHTER." Tho hcadliner at the King's Theatre to-night will bo tho exclusive Nordisk military drama, "Tho Governor's Daughter." The' daughter is loved by a penniless lieutenant, whoso affection she returns. The girl's father desires her to marry a reigning Prince. The photo-play centres around incidents which then ensue. Sonja eventually married tho Prince, and their child is stolen by the Tartars. After sensational incidents, which comprise a pursuit 011 horseback by tho Tartars, tho child- is rescued and restored to its parents by the Princess's oue-time lover, tho penniless lieutenant. The photo-play is snperb ill quality, and equal as regards merit to "The Black Chancellor," lately shown ,by West's. New items will support the star film, which is over 3000 ft. long. Tho King's Orchestra will discourse suitable selections. SHORTT'S PICTURES. "Caesar Borgio" is tho principal picture of the now programme to be submitted at Shortt's Continuous Picture Theatre today, and is claimed by the management to'bo "a wonderful film, entirely distinct from tho present-day drama.' This picture will be supported by "The Auckland Animated Gazette," "Foreman Engineer Swift Wind's Heroism," "Running Away from a Fortune," and several other firstclass pictures.

THE EMPRESS THEATRE. A staff of artisans will be engaged, in the Adelphi Theatre during the next few days in preparation for its reopening next Friday night as the Empress Theatre—a continuous picture palace under the direction of Mr. J. D. Williams (of the Greater J. D. Williams Amusement Co., Ltd.). The management announce that many novelties will be installed, and tho latest ideas for the comfort of patrons will be adopted. It is intended that ladies and children will be specially catered for. The introduction of the prices for admission which obtain in Australiastalls 3d.; dress circle, 6d.; dress circle reserve. Is., will mark an important step in local picture enterprise. Mr. Williams states that the time hns arrived when ,the public should receive the benefit of a tariff which has proved manifestly popular at the six big continuous picture palaces inaugurated by the Greater J. D. Williams Company in Australia. A selection of the finest pictures procurable nt the world's markets will constitute the regular. programme.

THE NEW HIS MAJESTY'S. Rapid progress is now being made with the erection of Messrs.' Fuller nnd Son's new His Majesty's Theatre in Courtenay l'lnce. Since last: report, the stoel-work of tlie dress circle has been completed, and considerable' progress has been made with the wooden seat platforms. The steel-work of the upper gallery has also been crected, and from the stage one can now gain a very good ; dea of -the general outline of the auditorium. It is surprising, in view of the sizo of tho building, how tho designer has oonformed to the "intimate" idea in bringing his galleries well forward without in tho least degree

interfering with the lino of vision from any part of tho theatre. Tho modern trend at Homo nnd in America is towards the small theatre, as tho typo of play now most in vogue is that which involves fine work on the part of tho artists—cxSression, inflection, intonation. In great arn-liko theatres these are in a largo measure lost. Mr. White, however, has contrived to design and build a largo theatre, which will seat 2000 people, and yet bring them all within rango of tho most subtle work of the performers. Mr. John Fuller has gone to Sydney in connection with tho scheme of interior decoration. Meanwhile a staff of modellers are now at work turning out tlio ornamental plaster work to bo used in connection with the decoration of the coiling and privato boxes. Tho brick work is proceeding apace, and would move faster but for a shortago of bricklayers. Mr. White intends to make an effort to have the theatre ready by Christmas, but may be hampered by a shortago of plasterers.
