QUARTERLY MEETING,
Ihe quarterly meeting of tho. Public bor ™o buperannuation Board was held on Thursday. The question of the re-employment of an oflicer of the Post and Telegraph Department who had been retired as medically unnt was considered by the board, and it was decided that iu the face of the medical reports furnished at the board's request the officer was not in a fit state to resume his duties. from the Under-Socretary in L ? nds and tlu > Under-Secrotary, Public c A? . De P artment . for certain officers ot i their Departments to be allowed to join the fund were approved on the conditions imposed as to paying up arrears oi contributions.
rhe cases of two officers who had formerly been granted allowances for limited periods on account of motlical unfitness came up for further consideration, and it was decided to continue them without restriction as to time. In two other cases allowances were granted for two years when the recipients are to be again medically examined, and one application was refused ns tho board was eatisfied that the man ds not unfit for the performance of his duties. '
The resignation of Mr. Spehco as a member of the board was received, and the secretary was instructed to convey to him the regret of tho board at losing his services.
The question of the necossity of' charwomen and office-cleaners joining tho fund was considered, and it was decided they should not be compelled to join as contributors.
The position of officors who had been retired as medically unfit and who might reiuso to accept appointments subsequently offered them was considered—in regard to tho compensation to which they wero entitled at the timo of their retirement—and it was , decided that Messrs. Richardson and Allport should interview the Minister for Internal Affairs and place before him tho Solicitor-General's opinion on the matter.
The totals of retiring allowances and annuities to widows and children passed by the board at its meetings are as follow.—Ordinary, 16, representing .£1791 lGs.; medically unfit, 5, representing .£327; 10 widows aud i children, representing
Tho position of sanitary inspectors, who joined the iand when they were Government officers, was brought before the board, and it was decided that as theso are now in the employ of local authorities, the board should be relieved of all responsibility in connection with them, and that the contributions of those already contributing to the fund should le refunded. The consideration of a retired polico officer's claim for an increased retiring allowance owing to his illness being caused by injuries received in the execution of his duties was held over until tho next meeting of tho board.
