RECOMMENDED FOR SUPERAN- '■ NUATION. ; Tho extension of tho beneSte 'of the teachers' superannuation, fund to teaching staffs of the university colleges was recommended to the House of Representatives yesterday by the Education Committee. Reporting on the petition of the professorial staff of Otaco University the Committee recommended that the Publio Service Classification and Superannuation Act should be amended to include in the definition of "education service" for the purposes of the teachers' fund persona serving in any capacity for not less than twenty hours in a week "under the governing body of the University of New Zealand, Auckland University College, Victoria College, Canterbury College, Canterbury Agricultural College, and the University of Otago." The terms on which the benefits'of tho fund should be extended to these persons Were that pensions for futnro service should be at the rate of onersixtioth for each year of service based on the average salary for the three years previous to retirement; pensions for back service at the rato of one ono hnndrcd and sixtieth, tho maximum pension to be .£9OO. Persons now in the Service should, the committee proposed, have an option to join tho fund exorcieahlo within six months, but all future entrants should bo obliged to join. In cases' where, under an agreement with a governing body, any person is entitled to an allowance on retirement, such person shall not receive both that allowance and a retiring allowance under tho teachers' superannuation fund, but tho retiring allowance under the fund shall bo accepted in satisfaction or pro tanta satisfaction, of the allowance payable under such! agreement, and in such oases tho governing body may, on behalf of 6uch persons, exercise his- option, to join tho fund and may pay his contribution to it out of its ordinary revenue.

The repcrt was referred to the Government for favourable consideration.
